Customizing Your AI Voice and Personality
Make your AI receptionist sound exactly how you want. This comprehensive tutorial covers voice selection, speaking style, chattiness level, pronunciation guides, and personality customization to perfectly match your brand identity.
🎯 What You Will Learn
- How to match the right voice to your brand identity and target audience
- When to use different chattiness levels for different industries
- Creating custom pronunciation guides for industry-specific terminology
- A/B testing different voice configurations to maximize caller satisfaction
⚠️ Prerequisites
- A fully configured FORAI account (complete the Getting Started tutorial first)
- A clear idea of your brand personality (formal, friendly, clinical, etc.)
- A list of any industry-specific terms callers might mention
- Optional: a sample script of how you'd want a call handled
🚀 Step-by-Step Guide
Navigate to the Voice & Personality panel
From your dashboard, go to Settings > Voice & Personality. This is your command center for everything related to how your AI sounds, speaks, and interacts with callers.

Browse and preview the voice library
Explore 50+ voice options organized by gender, accent, and tone (warm, professional, energetic). Click the play button on any voice to hear a sample. Use the 'Preview with my script' option to hear each voice read your actual greeting.

Adjust the speaking rate
Set the speaking speed to Slow, Normal, or Fast. Medical and legal offices typically benefit from a slower pace, while retail and food service can use normal or fast. Listen to your greeting at each speed to find the right balance.
Configure the chattiness level
The chattiness slider (1-10) controls how verbose the AI is in its responses. Level 1-3 is concise and efficient (great for medical intake). Level 4-6 is conversational (ideal for most businesses). Level 7-10 is highly engaging (perfect for hospitality and sales).
Customize greeting and closing phrases
Write your custom greeting (e.g., 'Thank you for calling Sunshine Dental, how can I help you today?') and closing phrase. Use dynamic variables like {{caller_name}}, {{business_name}}, and {{time_of_day}} for personalization.
Add pronunciation guides for special terms
Navigate to the Pronunciation tab and add any words the AI might mispronounce: doctor names, medical terms, street names, product names. Provide the phonetic spelling and test it with the preview button.

A/B test your configuration
Enable A/B testing under Advanced Settings to split traffic between two voice configurations. After 50+ calls on each variant, review the caller satisfaction scores and pick the winner.
Save and deploy your configuration
Click 'Save & Deploy' to push your changes live. The update takes effect within 60 seconds. Make a test call to verify everything sounds right, then monitor the first few live calls for quality.
💡 Pro Tips
Match voice gender and tone to your target demographic. A warm female voice tests best for healthcare; a confident male voice often wins for home services and trades.
Use chattiness level 5 as your starting point. You can always adjust up or down after reviewing real call transcripts.
Add pronunciation guides proactively for any word with more than three syllables or non-English origins. Prevention is easier than correction.
Review the 'Caller Sentiment' report weekly to catch any voice-related issues early. A drop in sentiment often correlates with a misconfigured personality setting.
⚠️ Important Warning
Always test your configuration with the built-in simulator before deploying to live callers. Changes to voice settings, routing rules, and workflows take effect within 60 seconds. Monitor the first 5-10 live calls after any change and revert immediately if you notice issues.
